ARCHBISHOP’S ADVISOR ON PRISONS
Archbishop John has asked me to be his Advisor on Prisons which I have willingly accepted. The work will involve regularly visiting all 14 prisons in the geographic area of the Archdiocese of Southwark, that is 5 prisons in South London and 9 prisons in Kent. My role will be to support our Catholic Prison Chaplains and their very important work. Assessing Criminal Justice issues generally will be part of the remit of the job too which must of course, also include supporting Prison Staff and the men and women held in our prisons and their families. I will be advising the Archbishop, the Auxiliary Bishops and Episcopal Vicars of our Archdiocese on how I think this can be achieved and how we can promote a justice system built on reconciliation and restoration rather than on pure punishment. Please pray for me as I begin this new additional role to being your Parish Priest.
