The Catholic Parish of Holy Family

COME HOME - OUR PARISH MISSION

The Church as we know it all over the world has a huge disconnect with many who previously called their parish home. This does not exclude our own parish here at Holy Family.  By way of our Baptism and initiation as Christians, each one of us is called to do our part to welcome others back into the Church. We are Missionary Disciples, and Fr. Malarchy with Archbishop John Wilson and the wider Archdiocese is calling us to step-up and contribute in some small way.

In order for this to happen, it is necessary for us to have a real look at how our parish and our parishioners welcome visitors. We hope that the resources provided by the Archdiocese, and our own initiatives (soon to be launched) will be the starting point that we need to welcome home our brothers and sisters in Christ.

WHAT DOES ARCHBISHOP JOHN THINK?

The Archdiocese of Southwark is being called to be a missionary and evangelising Archdiocese. Each Catholic in Southwark is, therefore, being called and invited to play their part

WHAT DOES POPE FRANCIS THINK?

“We can count on many lay persons, although still not nearly enough, who have a deeply-rooted sense of community and great fidelity to the tasks of charity, catechesis and the celebration of the faith. At the same time, a clear awareness of this responsibility of the laity, grounded in their baptism and confirmation, does not appear in the same way in all places. In some cases, it is because lay persons have not been given the formation needed to take on important responsibilities. In others, it is because in their particular Churches room has not been made for them to speak and to act. ”

Pope Francis

‘I dream of a missionary impulse capable of transforming everything, so that the Church’s ways of doing things can be suitably channelled for the evangelisation of today’s world.’ Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, 27
