CHRISTMAS
Next weekend we begin the joyous Season of Christmas. We have every reason to celebrate because Jesus our Saviour and our Friend comes, to free us from Sin and Death, from Pain and Suffering. He comes to share with us the eternal life of God which, of course, we can never deserve or merit, but his love for us is so great. The real meaning of Christmas has been lost in our secular society. This sacred Feast of our Salvation has been usurped by a festival for many people, of selfindulgence. An awareness of God’s love for us in the child Jesus and God’s call to us, inviting us to change and grow, is Christmas. It’s so sad to notice how this is hidden from the hearts and minds of so many people for whom a film or a TV programme or a surplus of food and drink has become all-important! Please redouble your efforts to help people to know the Lord Jesus, in these days leading up to the celebration of his birth. Be sure to bring members of your families, your friends and neighbours to our holy Masses of Christmas and encourage them to keep coming so that the Lord may give them the life and love and joy and peace of God for which, unknowingly, they long.
